Suomen Himalajan-tutkimuksen seura ry on purkautunut 22.07.2025.

The Society of Himalayan Studies in Finland has been dissolved with effect from 22.07.2025.

Vuonna 2007 perustettu Suomen Himalajan-tutkimuksen seura ry oli tieteellinen yhdistys, joka pyrki edistämään Himalajan alueeseen ja sen kieliin ja kulttuureihin liittyvää tutkimusta.

Seura järjesti tieteellisiä tilaisuuksia kuten seminaareja ja luentoja sekä muita vapaamuotoisempia tilaisuuksia ja tapahtumia, joissa alan tutkijat ja harrastajat saattoivat tutustua ja luoda yhteyksiä toisiinsa. Myös alan opiskelijat olivat tervetulleita mukaan toimintaan. Seuran rekisteröinti purkautui 22.7.2025.

Seuran vuosikokouksessa 2025 päätettiin kuitenkin säilyttää blogi, joten lehteä Himalayan Discoveries, jota ilmestyi yhteensä kaksi numeroa ja blogissa julkaistuja kirjoituksia voi yhä lukea näillä verkkosivuilla välilehdillä “Julkaisut” ja “Blogi”. Blogiin on myös mahdollista ehdottaa julkaistavaksi uusia kirjoituksia.

The SHSF was founded in February 2007 by a group of research scholars based in Helsinki, and it soon grew into a full-fledged registered society. Promoting research connected with the Himalayan culture and civilisation was its primary effort. It arranged scholarly events such as seminars, workshops and lectures, as well as other events for scholars, students, and other people interested in Himalayan studies. The registration of the society was dissolved in July 22nd, 2025.

In the annual meeting of the society 2025 it was decided to preserve the blog. So it is still possible to read the journal of the society (alltogether two numbers) and the writings that were published in the blog in these webpages of the former society of Himalayan Studies. The blog remains still active so it will be possible to suggest for publication some new blog posts there related to Himalayan Studies.
